Focus and Scope

methaodos.social science journa is an independent international scientific publication. It comes out every six months (May-November) in digital format (ISSN: 2340-8413 | DOI: 10.17502). Created by methaodos.org, a research group attached to the Area of Sociology at Rey Juan Carlos University of Madrid and co-published by the Institute of Computational Social Sciences.

methaodos.social science journal accepts for review and possible publication scientific articles (8,500-10,000 words), research notes (4,500-6,000 words) and book review (2,000 words) specific to the field of sociology, including communication studies, and other fields related to the Social Sciencies.

The journal will only review original content in Spanish, English and Portugese previously unpublished, and following the guidelines accepted by the scientific community. This publication meets the usual criteria of the scientific publications with the greatest international impact. The articles are subjected to a rigorous review process by the double-blind evaluation method according to the Open Journal System protocol.

methaodos.social science journal applies a continuous publication system through which accepted articles, research notes and book reviews are published online as soon as the production process is finished, with immediate assignment of volume, number and DOI.

methaodos.social science journal believes in the free dissemination of scientific knowledge and, therefore, is linked to open access information policies. It is published under the licence system Creative Commons, according to the modality “by-nc”. In this regard, all authors should transfer the rights of the scientific articles, research notes and book reviews published in this journal to be disseminated in an open format, ensuring that they are not committed to third parties.

methaodos.social science journal does not have either article submission charges or article processing charges (APCs).

 

 

Peer Review Process

All received articles are subjected to an initial review to rule out those which are not suitable in terms of the areas addressed by methaodos.social science journal.

The journal’s review policy is based in the double-blind evaluation method, so that neither authors nor reviewers know the identity of the other party.

The maximum time for review an article is six months.

Reviewers are chosen from recognized professionals in the field addressed by the articles, coming from academia and the private sector, with both national and international profiles.

1. methaodos.social science journal publishes academic works of rigorous theoretical and empirical research in the fields of sociology and the Social Sciences in general.

2. The format and layout errors, the non compliance with the journal’s rules or the incorrect spelling and syntax may be cause for rejection of the manuscript without being evaluated.

3. The review will be by peer-reviewed by the «double-blind» evaluation method. All the works sent to methaodos.social science journal will be reviewed according to strict criteria of scientific quality.

4. Once received a text that complies with all the formal requirements, the author(s) will receive a confirmation of receipt and the evluation process will start.

5. In a first stage, the Editorial Board of methaodos.social science journal will revise the overall quality and the thematic adjustment of the work. By doing so, those manuscripts which quality is notoriously low or not implementing any contribution to the journal’s thematic areas may be directly rejected without undergoing an external review. For this first review, the Editorial Board may require the assessment by members of the Advisory Board, if deemed necessary.

6. The articles, research notes and book reviews which pass this first filter will be sent to two external reviewers, who will be specialist in the field or in line of research concerned. When the assessments are discrepant or for any other reason deemed necessary, the Editorial Board could send the text to a third reviewer.

7. In view of the reports of the reviewers, the Editorial Board may adopt one of the following decisions that will be communicated to the author(s):

  • Accept without any changes. The reviewers recommend the publication of the version as originally submitted.
  • Accept with minor revisions The reviewers suggest slight improvements.
  • Accept after major revisions. The reviewers suggest in-depth changes.
  • Resubmit for review. The reviewers suggest significant changes and, additionally, request a second round of review after the implementation of the requested modifications by the authors.
  • Reject.

8. If a text is accepted for publication, the proofs should be reviewed by the author(s) within two weeks.

9. methaodos.social science journal will publish annually the list of all persons who have made anonymous evaluations, as well as the statistics about accepted, reviewed and rejected articles, and the average length of time between receipt of an article and communication of the final decision to its author.

10. methaodos.social science journal may make public,once they are verified, the following bad scientific practices: plagiarism, data falsification or fabrication, misapppropriation of authorship and double publication.

 

Open Access Policy

methaodos.social science journal is published under the licence system Creative Commons according to the modality Attribution-Noncommercial (by-nc): derivate works are allowed provided no commercial use is made. Likewise, the original work cannot be use with commercial purposes.

 

 

Open science

methaodos.social science journal recommends that authors deposit the complementary material of their works, at least the research data underlying the publications, in open access institutional or thematic repositories federated in the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) that complement the platforms that the journal already uses for this purpose.

methaodos.social science journal relates the articles it publishes to its complementary material deposited in public repositories through unique and persistent identifiers such as DOI.

methaodos.social science journal has the methaodos.preprint platform, which allows the dissemination of the pre-print version of published articles as well as open peer review. In addition, it has an established protocol for the transfer of metadata to open access repositories and content aggregators (Crossref Metadata Manager).

Ethical standards

methaodos.social science journal adopts the ethical standards of the Commitee on Publication Ethics (COPE). There of the following guidelines are followed:

 

To the authors

The authors undertake to respect the empirical evidence and not modify the original data to verify or refute the hypothesis. They admit that the work submitted is original and acknowledge the authorship of the sources used in the study. They avoid double publication. They also undertake to include in the article to all researchers who have contributed to the study.

 

To the reviewers

Reviewers will carry its function only if they considered self-competent on subject that they are intended to assess. Once accepted, they will conduct an objective, technical and constructive evaluation of the article, research note or book review. They undertake to respect the time limits and follow the guidelines of methaodos.revista social science in their work.

 

To the editor

The editors are committed to maintain anonymity throughout the editorial process, which have overall responsibility. They will ensure the intellectual integrity of the process. They will try to avoid any conflicts of interest.

 

Policy on the use of artificial intelligence (AI)

methaodos.social science journal is committed to scientific integrity and transparency in the use of artificial intelligence (AI). To ensure these principles, specific guidelines on the proper use of AI tools have been established for authors, reviewers, and editors.

 

General principles

According to the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Statement, AI tools cannot meet the criteria for authorship, as they cannot assume responsibility for scientific content. Furthermore, they cannot manage conflicts of interest, copyright, or make ethical decisions.

 

Use of AI by the authors

Authors must explicitly declare the use of any AI tools in scientific articles, research notes, and book reviews submitted to methaodos.social science journal. It is essential to indicate the software used, the tools applied, and the specific sections of the manuscript in which they were used. Furthermore, authors are responsible for the originality of the AI-generated or AI-assisted content and must ensure that its use does not entail bias and errors.

 

Using AI in peer review

If reviewers use AI as a complementary tool in the evaluation of scientific articles, research notes, and book reviews, they must expressly declare its use in the review reports. In any case, the reviewers' critical analysis and final evaluation are irreplaceable.

 

Use of AI by the editorial team

methaodos.social science journal editorial team may use AI in its anti-plagiarism systems or in manuscript editing and layout processes, but always under rigorous human supervision.

 

Ethics in the use of AI

methaodos.social science journal does not, under any circumstances, allow the use of AI to facilitate data manipulation, plagiarism, or intellectual property violations. Any misuse of AI, whether intentional or not, will be handled in accordance with COPE policies and will result in the exclusion of manuscripts and their authors.

 

Publishing Practices in Gender Equality

methaodos.social science journal promotes gender equality through inclusive publishing practices. It maintains a balanced composition in its editorial team (50% women and 49% men) and in its panel of reviewers (50% women and 45% men). Include the full name of authors in all published works. In addition, it has specific protocols to avoid any discriminatory practice based on sex, gender or sexual orientation, both in the internal organization of the publication and in managing the editorial flow.

methaodos.social science journal is highly involved in the dissemination of high-impact scientific content that addresses this problem, as demonstrated by the publication of a Monographic issue on Gender and Sexual Diversity in 2019 (Vol. 7, No. 1) and another on Systemic violence and gender in 2022 (Vol. 10. No. 1).

Anti-Plagiarism Policy

methaodos.social science journal makes an anti-plagiarism review of texts received through Crossref's Similarity Check service with iThenticate technology in order to guarantee its originality. The anti-plagiarism tool operates automatically when the submission of any papers, research note or bibliographic review is formalized through the journal's platform. If the similarity detected is equal to or greater than 20% excluding bibliographic references, the editors reject the submission, informing the authors and providing the corresponding report.

 

Archiving policies

methaodos.social science journal is subscribed to PORTICO as organization's long-term archiving provider. All issues of the journal and its corresponding contents are forwarded to PORTICO via FTP within a period not exceeding 24 hours after its publication. Regarding self-archiving policies, methaodos.social science journal allows that the author can archive post-print (i.e. final draft post-refereeing) or publisher's version/PDF. Consequently, methaodos.social science journal is a RoMEO blue journal.
