Abstract

Hijas del miedo brings together nineteen narratives based on real cases of gender-based violence, written by women judges and prosecutors. Told in the first person—by girls, adolescents, abused mothers, and magistrates—the accounts reveal how gender violence becomes embodied through social positions and intersections. The volume situates childhood at the centre as a site of vicarious violence and the intergenerational transmission of fear; it also explores the internalised guilt of victims and denounces the rape culture that tends to hold them responsible. In addition, it sheds light on institutional tensions within police forces and the courts. The book’s sociological value for teaching and academic research is particularly noteworthy.
